Ultrasonic Cleaner Size: Measure the Basket, Not Just Liters
Researched by John Morris · September 11, 2026 · Research-based guidance
Measure the object before choosing a tank capacity. A cleaner can hold plenty of liquid and still have a basket too narrow for a frame, mounting flange or projecting fitting. The usable basket and immersion depth are the dimensions that determine the loading arrangement.
Keep these measurements separate
Record the object's length, width and height in its permitted cleaning orientation, including anything that will remain attached. Beside those, record the usable basket dimensions and the appliance's external dimensions. The first comparison concerns the load; the second concerns your counter and storage space.
A fit calculator compares shapes and measurements. It cannot establish material compatibility, approve disassembly or confirm that liquid reaches an internal passage. Complete those checks using the item's care instructions.
A close fit needs more than a diagonal measurement
Consider a hypothetical object 140 mm long and 60 mm wide, and a basket floor measuring 130 by 90 mm. The object does not fit straight along the long axis. Rotating it changes the required space, but the basket's corner-to-corner distance alone cannot confirm clearance for the object's full shape. Use a drawing or an actual basket measurement for that decision.
Check depth separately. The basket support and the permitted liquid level determine immersion. Do not overfill the cleaner or omit a required holder to make an object fit.
Basket included is not the same as basket measured
Elma's Elmasonic Easy instructions prohibit placing objects on the tank bottom, while baskets are optional purchases. Confirm the accessories included with the exact listing and obtain their usable dimensions. A photo of a basket or a tank measurement leaves that question unanswered.
The MGUC500 illustrates why source details matter
On September 11, 2026, Magnasonic's MGUC500 page listed 5.4 × 3.6 × 2.1 inches internally in its comparison chart and 6 × 3.6 × 2.17 inches in its specification table. Neither entry resolved the usable basket dimensions. For an item near either limit, ask Magnasonic which measurements apply to the unit being sold.
Do not average conflicting figures or choose whichever makes the object appear to fit. Once clearance is confirmed, allow for the complete intended load and comfortable basket lifting, then check where the machine will be emptied and stored.
