An ultrasonic cleaner sends high-frequency vibration into a liquid. Changing pressure forms and collapses microscopic bubbles, a process called cavitation. The resulting mechanical action helps detach contamination from surfaces the liquid can reach.

Why recesses attract interest

Elma describes cavitation acting in small openings and gaps. A liquid can reach an accessible groove that is awkward to brush, making detailed parts a common application. Whether a particular passage is reached still depends on the part and its loading arrangement.

The mechanism does not authorize submerging a complete assembly. Its materials, seals, finishes and care instructions remain part of deciding whether the process is appropriate.

What you may see

Magnasonic explains that individual cavitation bubbles are too small to see. Surface ripples or dirt entering the bath may be visible instead. An already-clean object may produce little visible change.

Those observations are not comparative performance measurements. If activity is in doubt, use the machine maker's supported test rather than judging the sound or comparing dirt clouds in product videos.

Why the liquid matters

Elma describes chemistry working alongside the mechanical action. Surfactants help wet surfaces, and the cleaning agent needs to suit the contamination. The cleaner therefore assists a selected process; it does not give water or an unsuitable detergent unlimited cleaning ability.

Frequency and watts describe different things

Frequency describes the vibration rate. Elma's specification tables separately identify effective ultrasonic power, heating power and total consumption. Compare values carrying the same label, rather than treating a large heater or total-input figure as stronger ultrasonic output.

These numbers do not establish compatibility with a gemstone, coated lens or assembled watch. Nor does visible cleaning prove sterilization or restore missing material. Judge the result against the item's actual care and service requirements after its prescribed rinse and drying.
